My involvement with clay began about 13 years ago and I was immediately excited by its endless possibilities. I love the vastness of it, with so many different types of clay and methods of decoration.
A lot of the work I make is made in pairs or groups of three. I like the idea of the pieces connecting with each other in colour and form. These are mostly bottle and vase forms in pairs, or groups of three vessels or bottles. I also make large bowls and platters which are made as individual pieces.
All my work is wheelthrown and made from porcelain or fine porcelaineous stoneware. Glazes are mostly sprayed and are often overlapped to create subtle shades or contrasting colours. Up to three glazes can be used on one piece. This layering of colour enriches the texture of the pot giving added depth -
blues merging into reds or blacks , creating shades inbetween. Glazes used are often copper reds, celadons, rich cobalt blues and blacks in reduction and soft white and black matts with copper glazes in oxidation.
I have exhibited in many group exhibitions around Melbourne, and am currently represented in seven galleries in Victoria. |
