Capricornia Potters Group Inc

Capricornia Potters Group Inc logo

The Capricornia Potter’s Group formed in January/February 1974, the club spent two years in the Blanning Building in Bridge Square beginning early March 1974. We spent some time in 1976 in the National Fitness Centre in Reaney Street North Rockhampton prior to moving into the old Brewery Building owned by the council in that same year. We then moved to our present location in the Walter Reid Cultural Centre so the club has been in operation for 35 years. It was on 20 August 1977 that the Walter Reid building opened its doors to the public as an arts centre known as The Walter Reid Cultural Centre. In 1974-1975 the Capricornia Potters Group introduced Flea markets to Rockhampton, giving local artists a fun outlet for their work.

The club was formed for the like-minded potters/ceramists to have facilities to get together for exhibitions, workshops & access to kilns etc. The club offers the opportunity for members use of kilns, pug mill, workshops, wheels, slab roller & a vast collection of books in our library. We offer to the public children’s classes in school holidays & adult wheel-throwing classes with a gallery of quality, handcrafted pottery available for sale. The club also has raku & pit firings regularly each year.

New members are more than welcome to join us.
